Finishing Options for CNC Milled Parts

Surface finishing refines the overall texture (lay, roughness, waviness) of machined parts, enhancing their functionality, durability, and appearance. Our expert CNC milling engineers recognize the significance of flawless surface finishes, particularly in aerospace and medical applications. Below are some common finishes our team provides:

As Machined

As machined components are supplied as they come off the machine without any additional finishing processes. This can be a cost effective option. They will have minor tool marks and a standard surface roughness (Ra) of 3.2 μm. Surface finish requirements can be increased to 1.6, 0.8 or 0.4μm according to customers requirements.

This finish is a good choice for those who are more concerned with dimensional integrity than aesthetics. However, CNC milled parts with as-machined finishes don’t offer additional protection as their roughness and lack of protective coating renders them susceptible to nicking, scuffing, and scratching.


Fine polishing can be applied to CNC milled parts with high surface finish requirements. A surface roughness of Ra0.008μm can be achieved with our polishing processes.

Black oxide finishing delivers several advantages for components, such as corrosion protection, reduced light reflection, improved aesthetics with a sleek black appearance, enhanced lubrication properties, and minimal dimensional changes.Unlike painting or plating surface treatments, black oxide will not chip or flake.
