Finishing Options for CNC Turned Parts

Surface finishing is the process that helps to define and refine the overall texture (laying, roughness and waviness) of the machined part. Surface finishing, applied correctly, improves functionality, durability, and aesthetics. As Machined

As machined parts are parts that are supplied as they come right off the machine. They have minor visible tool marks and usually a standard surface roughness of (Ra) is 3.2 μm. CNC turning surface finish requirements can be increased to 1.6, 0.8 and 0.4 μm.

This finish is a good choice for those who are more concerned with dimensional integrity than aesthetics. However, CNC turned parts with as machined finishes don’t offer additional protection as their roughness and lack of protective coating renders them susceptible to nicking, scuffing, and scratching.



Ultra-precision polishing can be used for CNC turned parts with high surface roughness requirements. A surface roughness of Ra0.008μm can be achieved with this method

Typically used on CNC Turned or CNC machined aluminum parts this type of finish helps reduces corrosion. Anodizing is a scratch-resistant coating that is both a natural electrical insulator and one of the most durable finishes.
